The Christie multi-screen processor   Spyder X80, together with the SDVoE Terra technology solution, gave life to the large 50×9 meter Led screen of the Barcelona Beach Festival 2019 ( BBF ), one of the most important electronic music events in Europe, which has been held in Forum beach.

The company Stonevent has been in charge of providing the screen for the festival, known not only for bringing together the world's greatest figures in dance music on the same stage on the beach, but also for its staging, visual effects and sound systems. sound.

Stonoevent relied on the audiovisual services company for events MappScreen to manage the contents of this mega canvas, made up of several Led screens with different pixels that were distributed around the stage in different shapes. All of them had support and overhang systems, in accordance with the design of the festival.

The total resolution was 10,600×2,400 pixels, more than 25 million pixels divided between three main 4K outputs and three backup 4K outputs. A tailor-made project from the giant screen management specialist MappScreen, whose motto is “The bigger the screens, the better”.

“We have been collaborating with Stonevent on this festival for several years. Basically we do all the calculations and pixelmap of the event's mega screen, which this year was 50 meters wide by 9 meters high, and its management", says Xavier Cruz Rubio, CEO of MappScreen."

For this edition of the BBF, MappScreen used Christie equipment for the first time. VJ performers connected to the Spyder X80 delivering a 4K signal over both HDMI and DisplayPort. The Spyder acted as a signal manager for the VJs by scaling 4K to three 4K outputs and feeding the signal to the six NovaStar processors on the display.

“Thanks to the large number of 4K inputs that the Spyder has, we were also able to connect all the artists with a dedicated cable for each one of them. In this way, we avoid having to share inputs and cables between the artists or do live hot-swapping”, explains Cruz Rubio.

MappScreen used the Christie Terra AV over IP system to extend fiber video and timecode signals between the FOH and the stage where the DJ booth was located. “If Terra we would have had to use conventional fiber transmitters and run the same meters of RJ45 cabling to timecode the artists”, adds the CEO of MappScreen.

The MappScreen team does not want to stop thanking Stonevent for the trust placed in them, as well as the permanent support of their audiovisual provider Charmex .
